Indiana University Debate Begins Anew

Dear students and coaches,

For the 2010-2011 season, policy debate at Indiana University will officially return after a long hiatus of 18 years. Strong evidence indicates that IU has had a long and prideful history of debate success over the last century. The nationally ranked (2nd only next to Harvard) School of Public and Environmental Affairs has graciously adopted the debate team with open arms. A squad room has been chosen and coaches and graduate students continue to fill the ranks.

My name is Brian L. DeLong and I am the newly hired debate coach for Indiana. I competed as a top twenty policy team for the University of Wyoming from 2002-2006. From 2007-2008 I had the pleasure to coach alongside one of the greatest coaches of our history, Ross Smith, as Wake Forest University went on to win a 2008 NDT championship. From 08-09 I coached at the University of Kansas where I had the pleasure to stand alongside debate great Dr. Scott Harris as he lead his team to the 2009 NDT championship. My experience has had me cross paths with the top coaches and debaters of the past ten years. I am here to pick up the torch left by the Hoosier debate alumni and family to build what has been termed a "world class debate team." The institutional support is strong, they want to establish a culture of debate on campus and to become a beacon of debate around the world.

In order to fulfill this mission I need to draw in those who breath for and love debate. So far Hoosier debate has six strong and outstanding debaters who desire growth and expansion. I can provide the coaching if you provide the desire.

including our fantastic Kelly School of Business, SPEA, Communication and Culture, and the Journalism department. Keep us in mind.

You might try to find Domini Martin on campus. Anyway, just finished filling out my IU application, but I don't really have much interest to be completely honest.

I can't decide if I want to do debate. I'm probably coaching and I'm probably doing a file system, so it might be too much, haha.
